The ‘missing’ wife of Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi, discovered dead in Meghalaya during their honeymoon, has been detained in relation to the suspected murder of her spouse, officials reported on Monday. The police claim that Sonam, the wife, supposedly arranged the murder by employing contract killers.

Officials reported discovering Sonam unconscious on Saturday night at a ‘dhaba’ in Ghazipur. She was brought to the Ghazipur Medical College for care, where she gave herself up to the police and was later apprehended.

Meghalaya’s Director General of Police (DGP) Idashisha Nongrang stated that three additional suspects were apprehended during overnight operations. One individual was located in Uttar Pradesh, while the other two were apprehended in Indore. The suspects informed the authorities that Sonam contracted them to murder her spouse.

Officials stated that the accused are being questioned by police, who are conducting further investigations. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma praised the police for solving the case.

“Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved by the #meghalayapolice in the Raja murder case…3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, female has surrendered and operation still on to catch 1 more assailant…well done,” he said in a post on X.

The recently married pair, Raja Raghuvanshi and his spouse Sonam, were on their honeymoon in Cherrapunjee located in the East Khasi Hills when they disappeared on May 23. The pair reached Nongriat a day prior and were last seen leaving Balaji Homestay. A rented scooter was discovered left behind at Sohrarim the day after they vanished.

Ten days later, the body of the businessman from Indore was discovered deceased inside a deep ravine beneath the Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang. A machete believed to have been utilized in his murder was found near the location. Efforts were underway to find his wife who had gone missing.
