Rain lashes parts of Delhi, IMD forecasts more showers and thunderstorms today

Saturday started off with cooler temperatures, as the minimum reached 22.2 degrees Celsius, falling 2.5 degrees below the seasonal average. At 8:30 am, the relative humidity was 82 percent, signaling a damp beginning to the weekend. The IMD forecasts thunderstorms accompanied by rain throughout the day, with the peak temperature likely around 34 degrees Celsius.
On Friday, Delhi experienced one of the rainiest May days in recent times. The India Meteorological Department reported that the Safdarjung weather station measured 77 mm of rainfall in just six hours, from 2:30 am to 8:30 am.
The rainfall was the second-largest amount in a 24-hour period for May in Delhi since records started in 1901. The all-time highest is still 119.3 mm, which occurred in one day in May 2021. The earlier record was 60 mm, noted on May 24, 1976, as per the IMD.
The air quality in the city was classified as ‘moderate’, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) value of 152 at 9 am, as indicated by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data. The CPCB states that an AQI from zero to 50 is deemed ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.
