Pineapple Curry Recipe | Ananas Menaskai – Gojju

Ananas Menaskai, also known as Pineapple Gojju, is a traditional Udupi-style sweet, sour, and spicy curry made from ripe pineapple. A unique festive dish from Karnataka, it blends fruit and spice harmoniously.
To prepare, chop 1½ cups of ripe pineapple and cook until soft. In a separate pan, dry roast 1 tsp urad dal, 1 tsp sesame seeds, 1 tsp methi seeds, 1 tsp cumin, 2 tsp coriander seeds, 4-5 dry red chillies, and 2 tbsp grated coconut. Grind this with soaked tamarind (lemon-sized) and a small piece of jaggery into a smooth paste.
Add the ground paste to the cooked pineapple along with salt and some water. Simmer the mixture for 10–15 minutes until flavors blend.


For tempering, heat coconut oil, splutter mustard seeds, curry leaves, and add a pinch of hing. Pour over the curry.
Serve hot with steamed rice. This dish balances tangy, sweet, and spicy notes in one wholesome bite.
