Minister Chandramohan Patowary must apologize in the Assembly for calling the Eleventh Martyrs troublemakers

— BDF demands while paying tribute on May 19

On the morning of May 19, a delegation from the Barak Democratic Front (BDF) gathered at Silchar Railway Station and Silchar Cremation Ground to pay tribute to the martyrs.

Later, speaking to journalists, BDF Chief Convenor Pradip Datta Roy said that, as every year, they came to Silchar Railway Station and cremation ground to honor the Eleventh Martyrs. He said that on this May 19, representatives from the Assam Sahitya Sabha came to Barak and recognized the language martyrs and supported the demand to rename the station as “Bhasha Shahid Station.” This is a significant development. However, merely supporting the demand is not enough; the government must take immediate steps to discuss and implement it. Otherwise, nothing concrete will happen. BDF will closely monitor this matter.

Pradip Datta Roy also stated that it has been 65 years, yet the martyrs have not received official recognition or any financial aid for their families. The martyrs have not been accorded their rightful honor — this is our failure. He said that if genuine coordination is desired, the government must accept these demands and implement them immediately. He further added that in the past, then AGP leader and current government minister Chandramohan Patowary insulted the Eleventh Martyrs by calling them troublemakers and said that they were shot because they were troublemakers. Therefore, Chandramohan Patowary must apologize in the Assembly as he has insulted the emotions of the 4 million people of Barak. On this Martyrs Day, May 19, they are raising this demand on behalf of BDF.

Present at the program on behalf of BDF were Debayan Deb, Haradhan Dutta, Hrishikesh Dey, Joydeep Bhattacharjee, among others.

BDF Convenor Debayan Deb announced this news in a press statement.
