A high-ranking U.S. official mentioned on Friday that the talks would address trade and the world economy, essential minerals, migrant and drug trafficking, wildfires, global security, artificial intelligence, and energy security.

A 57-year-old man has been taken into custody in Minnesota, USA, on suspicion of murdering a Democratic state legislator and her spouse.

The arrest on Sunday evening marked the end of an intense two-day search for the suspect after the fatalities of Melissa Hortman, a Democrat from Minnesota, and her spouse Mark. Governor Tim Walz referred to it as a “politically driven assassination.”

Authorities stated that Vance Luther Boelter was carrying a weapon during his arrest in a rural region west of Minneapolis but surrendered calmly when confronted.

The suspect is also reported to have shot and hurt Democratic State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette, both of whom are currently awake in the hospital. Mrs. Hoffman remarked on Sunday that they both felt “extremely fortunate to be alive.”

Boelter was arrested after authorities discovered a vehicle he supposedly utilized in Sibley County, roughly 50 miles (80km) away from the homicide location in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Air and SWAT teams were sent to apprehend the suspect in what has been termed the largest manhunt in Minnesota’s history.

No law enforcement officers sustained injuries during his capture, and authorities stated they were not seeking any additional suspects.

Speaking at a press conference with other local officials on Sunday night, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said the attack was an “unspeakable act” that had “altered the state of Minnesota”.

“This cannot be the norm. It cannot be the way that we deal with our political differences,” Walz said.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey praised the “skill and bravery” of law enforcement agencies following Boelter’s arrest.

“Political violence is abhorrent, it cuts against the most basic moral fabric of our democracy. It’s critical that those who commit these acts be held accountable under the law,” he added.

Boelter is charged with pretending to be a police officer to conduct the assaults on Saturday, prior to trading gunfire with law enforcement and escaping the suburban Minneapolis vicinity. Melissa Hortman was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives for two decades and held the position of speaker from 2019 until 2025.
