Hockey India Congratulates PR Sreejesh On Receiving Padma Bhushan

Hockey India has extended its heartfelt congratulations to PR Sreejesh for being conferred with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on April 28, 2025. This honor places Sreejesh alongside the legendary Major Dhyan Chand, making him only the second Indian hockey player to receive this prestigious accolade.
Widely celebrated as the “God of Modern Indian Hockey,” Sreejesh enjoyed a glittering 18-year international career, earning 336 caps for India before retiring after the Paris 2024 Olympics. He played a pivotal role in securing bronze medals at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics. Notably, he is the only hockey goalkeeper to have won the FIH Goalkeeper of the Year award three times, in 2021, 2022, and 2024 Currently serving as the coach of the Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team, Sreejesh’s dedication continues to inspire future generations. Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey lauded him, stating, “PR Sreejesh’s contribution to Indian hockey, both as a player and now as a coach, has been extraordinary. He exemplifies dedication, excellence, and leadership”.
