The Indian government has taken a significant step to modernize and digitize the agricultural sector by allocating ₹6,000 crore to strengthen the Agri Stack initiative under its Digital Agriculture Mission. This announcement was made during the national conference titled “Agri Stack: Turning Data into Delivery”, held in New Delhi on June 13, 2025. The conference highlighted the need to make farming more data-driven, transparent, and accessible to farmers, especially those in rural and remote regions.

The new allocation aims to enhance farmer-centric digital services by helping state governments set up comprehensive digital infrastructure. Of the total ₹6,000 crore, ₹4,000 crore will go toward building robust farmer registries—this includes integrating land ownership details and systems for registering legal heirs. The remaining ₹2,000 crore will be dedicated to conducting digital crop surveys, which will help in precise planning, policy formulation, and support mechanisms.

These funds will be available to states on a first-come, first-served basis, encouraging early adoption and faster implementation of digital tools. The government also introduced several key digital innovations to enhance service delivery to farmers. One of the major features is the launch of Digitally Verifiable Certificates (DVCs) that will allow farmers to securely share land and crop data with banks and government departments for quicker access to loans and subsidies.

Another highlight is the Farmer Authorization System, an authentication mechanism linked to the farmer registry, which ensures secure and direct access to welfare services. Additionally, a new AI-based chatbot—developed using Google Gemini—was showcased, offering real-time agricultural assistance in multiple Indian languages.

Several states, including Maharashtra, Bihar, Odisha, and Kerala, signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to integrate their agricultural systems with Agri Stack. Notably, Maharashtra is developing “Mahavistaar AI,” a state-level advisory platform, while Uttar Pradesh is aligning Agri Stack tools with its MSP procurement system. Karnataka is focusing on integrating banking and disaster-relief support with Agri Stack.

Through this initiative, the government envisions improved access to credit, timely disbursement of subsidies, and real-time market intelligence for farmers. The integration of existing schemes like PM-KISAN, PMFBY, and Kisan Credit Card into this digital platform is expected to enhance efficiency and farmer participation.

This large-scale investment underscores the Centre’s commitment to building a digitally empowered farming ecosystem that fosters transparency, accessibility, and long-term agricultural sustainability.
