Gautam Gambhir Supports Rohit, Kohli; Urges Cricket Ban with Pakistan Post Pahalgam Attack
9th May 2025

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has voiced strong support for cricket veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, stating that they should continue representing India as long as they perform. Speaking to the media, Gambhir emphasized performance over age or tenure, noting that “form and fitness” should be the sole criteria for selection.
In a separate and stern statement, Gambhir condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 Indian citizens lost their lives. In response, he called for a complete suspension of all cricketing ties between India and Pakistan. Gambhir, known for his nationalist stance, argued that sports cannot be isolated from national security concerns.
His remarks highlight the ongoing debate around separating politics from sports. With rising tensions post the Pahalgam attack, Gambhir’s call reignites the discourse on whether sporting diplomacy with Pakistan is feasible or ethical under such circumstances.
