Sunjay Kapur, a prominent industrialist and former husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, passed away on June 12, 2025, in England at the age of 53. Kapur, who was participating in a polo match at the time, reportedly collapsed suddenly during the game. According to initial reports, he may have suffered a fatal allergic reaction after either being stung by a bee or accidentally swallowing one, which then likely triggered a severe heart attack. Despite immediate medical attention, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar, a leading Indian company that manufactures advanced automotive components, particularly for electric vehicles. Under his leadership, the company expanded its global footprint, operating in key markets including India, the United States, China, Mexico, and Serbia. As of March 2025, Sona Comstar held a market capitalization of over ₹31,000 crore. Sunjay himself was considered one of India’s wealthiest businessmen, with a personal net worth reportedly around $1.2 billion.

Born in 1971 in Michigan, USA, Sunjay Kapur was educated at The Doon School in India before earning a degree in business administration from the University of Buckingham in the UK. He later pursued executive education at Harvard Business School. He took over his family’s business from his father, Surinder Kapur, and played a crucial role in modernizing and expanding its reach, especially into the electric mobility space.

Outside of business, Kapur was known for his love of polo. He captained his own team and was a regular fixture in polo circuits. He was previously married to actress Karisma Kapoor, with whom he has two children. He later married Priya Sachdev, a former model and entrepreneur.

Kapur’s sudden and unexpected death has shocked the business and entertainment worlds alike. Tributes have poured in from colleagues, friends, and well-wishers mourning the loss of a visionary leader and passionate sportsman.
