DRI confiscates heroin and methamphetamine in two operations in the North-East

As part of the ongoing effort to combat the smuggling and trafficking of illegal drugs in the North Eastern Region, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), with support from the 19 BN Assam Rifles, stopped a truck at Noney, Manipur, on NH-37 on 21.5.2025 and confiscated 569 grams of heroin and 1,039 grams of methamphetamine tablets. The parcels with the illegal drugs were discovered hidden in a specially designed compartment within the truck’s chassis.

In a separate operation, the DRI, aided by the Assam Rifles FIU Unit Silchar, stopped a truck at Aloicherra, Hailakandi District, Assam, on 22.05.2025 and confiscated 2,640.53 grams of heroin. The packets with the drug were intricately hidden in a specially designed cavity on the truck’s bed floor.

The seized illegal drugs, valued at approximately Rs. 23.5 crore in the global grey drug market has been confiscated under the NDPS Act, 1985, and four individuals have been detained. Since January of this year, DRI has confiscated illegal items such as ganja, methamphetamine tablets, and heroin valued at Rs. 173 crores were seized, and 26 individuals were apprehended in the North Eastern Region.
