A sub-inspector assistant of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), detained by the NIA for supposedly transmitting sensitive information to Pakistan intelligence agents, was assigned to the 116 battalion of the CRPF in Pahalgam, J&K, and was reassigned to Delhi just five days prior to the terror attack on April 22 in the tourist area of south Kashmir, sources revealed.

The NIA announced on Monday that it had apprehended the CRPF ASI in Delhi and was interrogating him. The main agency claimed that he had disclosed classified information to Pakistani agents and that he was receiving money from them. He has been let go from his position.

He was remanded in the agency’s custody until June 6 by the Special Court at Patiala House Courts. “We have arrested the CRPF personnel, identified as Moti Ram Jat. He was actively involved in espionage activity and had been sharing classified information related to national security with Pakistan Intelligence Officers (PIOs) since 2023. We have also found that he was receiving funds from the PIOs through various conduits,” a NIA spokesperson said.

A source said Jat was posted in the Pahalgam sub-division of J&K’s Anantnag district and had been “honey-trapped” in 2023. “The probe has revealed that he was allegedly providing classified documents related to security personnel deployment, movement and also some of the reports of the multi-agency centre (MAC) of intelligence agencies,” the source said.

A spokesperson for the CRPF stated that Jat was discovered to have breached set guidelines and protocols amid “continuous surveillance” of his social media actions in collaboration with central agencies.

“Upon preliminary assessment, the matter was deemed serious and has since been referred to the National Investigation Agency for further inquiry. Concurrently, the said individual has been dismissed from service with effect from 21.05.2025, under the relevant provisions of the Constitution of India read with the CRPF Rules,” the officer said.
