Banana fibre extraction facility inaugurated in Nagaland to transform rural livelihoods
News Mania Desk / 13th June 2025

A banana fibre extraction facility was recently inaugurated in Nagaland, aiming to transform rural livelihoods through sustainable development. Located in Jalukie, Peren district, the facility was set up by the North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project (NERCORMP) under the North Eastern Council. It will enable the conversion of banana stems—usually discarded as waste—into valuable fibre for textile, paper, and handicraft industries. This initiative is expected to generate employment, boost income for farmers, and promote eco-friendly practices. Officials highlighted the project’s potential to empower rural women and support local entrepreneurship in the state.
