SpiceJet Returns to Profitability After Seven Years, Posts Record ₹325 Crore Profit in Q4 FY25

News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 14th June 2025

SpiceJet, the Indian low-cost airline, has made a dramatic financial comeback by reporting a net profit of ₹48 crore for the fiscal year 2024–25 (FY25). This marks the airline’s first full-year profit in seven years, reversing a long spell of financial losses that included a ₹404 crore loss in the previous fiscal year (FY24).

The highlight of this turnaround was the airline’s performance in the fourth quarter (January–March 2025), during which it posted its highest-ever quarterly net profit, ranging between ₹319 crore and ₹325 crore. This represents a staggering 173% year-on-year growth compared to ₹119 crore in the same quarter last year.

While SpiceJet’s total revenue for FY25 stood at ₹6,736 crore—lower than the ₹8,497 crore recorded in FY24—the March quarter alone brought in significant operating revenue, estimated at ₹1,446 crore. The airline’s strong performance was further supported by a high passenger load factor of 88% in Q4, indicating strong consumer demand. Revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK) also improved substantially, rising to around ₹5.33–₹6.60.

Several strategic moves contributed to this financial recovery. The airline successfully raised ₹500 crore in equity during the quarter, helping strengthen its balance sheet. Additionally, it expanded operations by launching 24 new domestic routes and entering new destinations, including Dehradun, Tuticorin, and Porbandar, along with international service to Kathmandu.

Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh credited the airline’s return to profitability to operational improvements, better yield management, successful aircraft restoration, and the resolution of long-standing dues and legal issues with lessors. SpiceJet also regained its International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification, boosting its global credibility.

With back-to-back profitable quarters and growing investor confidence, SpiceJet appears poised for sustained growth in the upcoming fiscal year.
