Air India plane crash: LIC announces relaxations on claim settlements after Ahmedabad incident, says this

The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), listed on BSE and NSE, announced on Friday certain relaxations for those affected by the Air India AI 171 plane crash in Ahmedabad. Conveying its profound sorrow for the loss of passengers and crew members aboard Air India flight Al 171, as well as those on the ground who perished in the plane crash in Ahmedabad, LIC of India stated its dedication to assisting those impacted and will hasten the processing of claims to offer financial support.
LIC shares were down 0.56 percent at Rs 938 on BSE amid a sluggish market. The BSE Sensex was at 81,078.19, decreasing by 613.79 points or 0.75 percent.
Air India announced a sorrowful event concerning its flight AI-171 traveling from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, which went down shortly after departure on June 12, 2025. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft disaster resulted in the deaths of at least 265 individuals, which includes 241 travelers on the flight. On the vessel, there were 169 Indian citizens, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian.
“LIC of India has announced many concessions to mitigate the hardships of the claimants of LIC Policies. In lieu of death certificates, any evidence in Government Records of death of the policyholder due to the plane crash or any compensation paid by Central/State Government /Airline Authorities will be accepted as proof of death,” LIC said in a press release today.
LIC stated that all measures will be taken to ensure that the claimants are contacted and claims are resolved swiftly for the impacted families.
Today, it was reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to the crash site. Air India Managing Director and CEO Campbell Wilson is presently at the location of the AI-171 aircraft accident in Ahmedabad. Wilson stated that the airline has a responsibility to provide “accurate and timely information” to the affected families instead of engaging in speculation.
