Ukraine reported that it carried out its most extensive long-range strike in the conflict against Russia, hitting more than 40 Russian aircraft at four military installations. President Zelensky mentioned that 117 drones were used in this “Spider’s Web” mission, targeting 34% of Russia’s strategic cruise missile launchers. The operation was coordinated by the SBU security service for a period of 18 months.
Russia acknowledged the assaults, describing them as a “terrorist act.” At the same time, peace talks were arranged in Istanbul, but hopes are still minimal. Ukrainian troops indicated multiple injuries due to missile attacks in Kharkiv. Furthermore, Russian security released a report on foiled sabotage attempts. Zelensky praised the mission, disclosing that it was carried out close to a Russian FSB site, with damages approximated at $7 billion.
The assertions made by Ukraine about drone strikes on Russian airbases have not been confirmed. According to sources from Ukraine’s SBU, four Russian airbases were struck, incorporating strategic bombers such as the Tu-95 and Tu-22M3. The operation entailed transporting FPV drones into Russia, hidden beneath mobile wooden cabins on trucks, which were remotely accessed for launching.
Governor Igor Kobzev of Irkutsk confirmed that drones struck the Belaya military base, stating that the launch site had been secured. Russian media also reported that drones were deployed from trucks. The Russian defense ministry stated that all assaults were thwarted, though fires broke out at certain airbases, and no injuries were reported. Furthermore, Ukraine experienced substantial drone assaults, asserting the elimination of numerous aerial dangers while incurring losses from a missile attack on a training facility.
