OpenAI announced on Monday that it will establish its first office in Seoul and has created a local entity in South Korea due to the rising demand for its ChatGPT service.
According to OpenAI, South Korea ranks second after the United States in the number of paying ChatGPT subscribers. The company has also started recruiting personnel to bolster collaborations in the country and anticipates revealing more information about this in the upcoming months.
“Korea’s full-stack AI ecosystem makes it one of the most promising markets in the world for meaningful AI impact, from silicon to software, and students to seniors,” Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon said in a statement.
Earlier this year, OpenAI revealed it would create artificial intelligence products for South Korea in collaboration with chat app provider Kakao. Kwon, currently in Seoul, is scheduled to meet with representatives from the main opposition Democratic Party and the ruling People Power Party, according to local media.
