New Delhi, 7th May 2025 – A full-scale mock drill was conducted at Khan Market today to assess the emergency response preparedness of local authorities and first responders. The exercise, coordinated by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in collaboration with Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, and medical emergency teams, aimed to simulate a realistic emergency scenario in one of the city’s busiest commercial areas.

The drill commenced at around 11:00 AM with a mock call reporting a fire outbreak in a popular restaurant within the market complex. Within minutes, fire tenders, ambulances, and police personnel arrived on the scene. The area was quickly cordoned off, and evacuation protocols were initiated. Over 100 people, including market staff, shoppers, and volunteers, participated in the exercise.

Trained personnel demonstrated fire-fighting techniques, evacuation procedures, and first aid measures. The drill lasted approximately 90 minutes and concluded with a review session led by senior officials.

Speaking to the media, a DDMA spokesperson emphasized the importance of such drills in ensuring public safety and building coordination among emergency services. “Khan Market is a high-footfall zone, and this drill helps us identify gaps and enhance our readiness to tackle real-life emergencies,” he said.

The event was appreciated by local shopkeepers and visitors, who expressed greater awareness and confidence in the city’s emergency response capabilities. Authorities plan to conduct similar drills across other crowded public areas in the coming months.
