PhonePe Launches ‘Made in India’ SmartSpeaker With 4G Support and Extended Battery Life

PhonePe, supported by Walmart, revealed its ‘Made in India’ SmartSpeaker for merchants on Monday. It is a wireless speaker capable of confirming payments received through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) instant payment system via immediate audio notifications. The gadget features a built-in speaker and offers up to 21 language choices. According to the company, it offers notable enhancements compared to the original speaker, including a battery life that lasts more than seven days on standby. The PhonePe SmartSpeaker also includes support for 4G connectivity.

PhonePe claims that its latest ‘Made in India’ SmartSpeaker keeps all the favored features of the former version. This encompasses the celebrity voice function for voice notifications and is offered in 21 different language variations. The new variant employs the 4G network, which purportedly leads to improved network reliability for recording payments made by customers to the merchant. The PhonePe SmartSpeaker features rapid charging abilities and can be fully charged in roughly 75 minutes.

According to the company, the speaker’s battery life can last more than seven days when in standby mode. Like other smart speakers available, it offers real-time audio notifications for successful UPI transactions to vendors.

“With these SmartSpeakers, we are not only driving financial inclusion for merchants nationwide, especially in underserved areas, but also fostering domestic innovation and ensuring that Indian manufacturers become integral participants in the country’s digital transformation”, Yuvraj Singh Shekhawat, Chief Business Officer of Merchant Business at PhonePe, said.

According to the company, the integrated speaker offers enhanced audio clarity, and its compact design gives merchants flexibility for placement in crowded counter spaces. PhonePe promotes its SmartSpeaker as being manufactured in India, a strategy purported to enable them to customize the product according to the unique needs and preferences of local merchants.

Vendors have two options for acquiring a PhonePe SmartSpeaker. The monthly package includes a one-time installation charge of Rs. 318 and a monthly fee of Rs. 125, which is deducted from the settlement every month through UPI Autopay. In the meantime, the zero-rental scheme entails a Rs. A one-time setup charge of 999 and a Rs. A monthly subscription fee of $25 will apply. The financial services and digital payments firm states that this monthly charge will continue to be deducted until merchants choose to cancel their SmartSpeaker subscription.
