Pakistani singer Abida Parveen’s Instagram account blocked in India

The Instagram account of Pakistani singer and renowned Sufi artist Abida Parveen has been restricted in India. This occurs alongside comparable limitations imposed on other prominent Pakistani artists like Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, Ali Zafar, and Fawad Khan following the Pahalgam terrorist attacks.
The experienced singer’s renditions of Sufi poetry have transcended boundaries, profoundly impacting listeners in India. She has sung numerous classics, including ‘Tu Jhoom,’ ‘Main Naraye Mastana,’ ‘Pardadari,’ ‘Chaap Tilak,’ and ‘Aaqa,’ among others. If you attempt to access Abida Parveen’s Instagram profile, you will see the message, “Account not accessible in India.” This is due to our adherence to a legal request to limit this content.
This move showcases the Indian government’s continuous policy of banning content from Pakistani artists. Previously, the Instagram accounts of Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, Sajal Aly, Ali Zafar, Ayeza Khan, Sanam Saeed, Maya Ali, and Iqra Aziz Hussain were limited, and this was followed by restrictions on Fawad Khan, singers Atif Aslam, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and, most recently, Momina Mustehsan.
This move follows the terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 in the well-known Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, where several terrorists opened fire on tourists, resulting in 26 deaths, including that of a Nepali national. The act of terror has caused the whole nation to grieve for the innocent lives lost who only wished to create lasting memories with their friends and families.
