On Friday, Coal India Ltd (CIL), a state-owned company, reported that its coal offtake fell by 1.2 percent to 63.4 million tonnes (MT) in April compared to the same month last year.

Coal India stated in a regulatory filing that the off-take of dry fuel was 64.2 MT in the same period last year.

Coal offtake denotes the quantity of coal delivered from a coal pithead. It differs from coal production since it may involve coal that has been stored before. At the same time, coal output from Coal India remained nearly unchanged at 62.1 million tonnes in April. The filing noted that it had generated 61.8 MT of coal during the same period last year.

In the financial year 2024-25, CIL generated 781.1 MT of coal, approximately 7 percent lower than the company’s goal for the fiscal year. CIL aimed for a coal production goal of 838 million tonnes (MT) for the year 2024-25.

Coal India Ltd aims for a production of 875 million tonnes and an offtake of 900 MT in the fiscal year 2025-26.
