At least four individuals lost their lives when a four-story building fell down in northeast Delhi early Saturday morning, with approximately twelve others still believed to be trapped beneath the rubble, according to the police. The event took place in the Mustafabad region. As per the police, at least 14 individuals have been saved thus far and were transported to the GTB Hospital, where four were pronounced dead upon getting there. The event was reported at 3:02 in the morning.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with firefighters and Delhi Police, have quickly arrived at the location. The police also stated that they are investigating the reason for the building’s collapse. A senior NDRF official emphasized the challenges faced by the rescue teams in maneuvering heavy equipment through the cramped streets of Mustafabad to remove the rubble, noting that about 12 individuals remain trapped.

After the building’s collapse, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta guaranteed firm measures against those accountable. She stated that an investigation has been initiated regarding the incident. Mohan Singh Bisht, the BJP MLA from Mustafabad, held officials accountable for the incident, stating that he had cautioned two months prior that the approval of unauthorized buildings might result in future calamities, as reported by the news agency.

The CCTV video provided by a nearby resident at approximately 2:30 am on Saturday captures the precise moment of the collapse. A strong rush of wind and dust is visible sweeping through the alley right after the structure fell. Last week, two individuals lost their lives and three were hurt in distinct occurrences – a building falling and a wall giving way – in the Delhi-NCR area.

A wall that was being built on the sixth floor of a Delhi building in Madhu Vihar led to the death of a 67-year-old man.
